NICVA has welcomed the announcement of £7million from the Minister for Neighbourhood Renewal projects in Belfast.
Commenting on the announcement NICVA Chief Executive, Seamus McAleavey, said:
"When I spoke to the Minister late last week on this issue I stressed how urgent it was and asked her to move quickly. It is clear that this is what she has done. I will be meeting the Minister this afternoon to discuss the details of her announcement as it is crucial that organisations receive this payment as soon as possible to avoid further disruption to services and ensure that staff, some of whom have not received wages in six weeks, are able to be paid this month."
Neighbourhood Renewal is a cross-departmental programme aimed at regenerating deprived urban areas and Mr McAleavey pointed out that other departments have a key role to play in delivering the programme's targets:
"The voluntary and community sector will be keen to hear from the Minister about the level of commitment other key Departments such as Health, Social Services and Public Safety have shown in supporting work to help the Executive meet its Neighbourhood Renewal targets."
