Building on the work of the Carnegie Inquiry into the future of civil society in the UK and Ireland, NICVA will begin to explore what the voluntary and community sector's role should be in Northern Ireland.
Are organisations just cheap service providers or do they bring more fundamental values of association, collaboration and build the behaviours that underpin democracy?
These questions will be asked in a Northern Ireland context to try to establish that the sector is a vitally important part of the new devolved Northern Ireland.
Speakers will include a senior government representative and George Reid, former Speaker of the Scottish Parliament and Vice-Chair of the Carnegie Commission.
This will be a half day conference in the morning of 21 November 2008.
Further information will follow soon - look out for registration on www.nicva.org.
