NICVA is working with the Big Lottery Fund on an exciting project to provide a development and support programme to Reaching Communities NI grant holders. At present NICVA is working with 31 groups providing one to one support and training programmes.

Participants in the training programme

Those completing the first line management programme from November 2008 to January 2009 are:

Catherine O'Kane, Cliftonville Community Regeneration Forum; Brent van der Linde, Mediation Northern Ireland; Barbara Trotter, Drumgor Detached Youth Work Project; Clair Dundas, National Autistic Society;
Pauline McGeown, Age Concern Northern Ireland; Philomena Mulholland, Craigavon and Banbridge Ageing Well Project; Eamonn O'Donnell, North West Taxi Proprietors Limited; Michael Mulvenna, Royal National Institute for Deaf People; Susan Wilson, Nicole Adcock, Roberta Gray, Sharon Courtney, Shankill Women's Centre; Beverly Craig, NI Hospice; Nicola Gault, Sylvia McCaughan, Compass Advocacy Network.

Fifteen individuals from ten organisations, funded through Reaching Communities NI, embarked upon NICVA's accredited first line management programme by taking part in a two day residential on 6 and 7 November in the Clarion Hotel Carrickfergus. This course continues for nine more weeks and covers topics such as strategic planning, fundraising and performance management.

The first line management programme is designed specifically for the voluntary and community sector and includes current management theories and practical tools. By providing an overview of management it is an excellent stepping stone to other qualifications. The aim of the course is to provide the knowledge and skills required to manage effectively in a voluntary or community sector organisation and to enhance personal effectiveness.
