Local government workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are set to get an interim pay rise to tide them over Christmas.
NJC has agreed to a 2.45% pay rise for staff backdated to April 2008. The increase is an interim measure, however, and the final settlement of this year's pay award is awaiting the results of arbitration with ACAS.
Trade unions will meet with the employers again on 23 October to discuss the terms of reference for arbitration. The unions regard the decision to implement this increase as an interim measure, whilst arbitration is taking place, but local government employers regard this as the full implementation of their final offer and separate from the arbitration process. Therefore, there may or may not be further changes but this will not be clear until the end of the arbitration process.
NICVA will post the new pay scales as soon as these have been agreed.
Current payscales (before the increase) are available at www.communityni.org/index.cfm/section/publications/key/Payscales_2007
