This month's round up
Funding cuts
In spite of the summer weather this month's NICVAnews brings some gloom on the funding front. In advance of a meeting of the Assembly's Social Development Committee meeting at NICVA we asked for your stories on funding cuts to help us make the case for a more strategic approach to funding for the sector. Hopefully, though, we'll get to bring some good news after the meeting.

On a more positive note, this month saw the launch of the eagerly awaited Code of Good Governance, which will help voluntary and community organisations get to grips with those tricky areas such as management committee/board leadership; responsibilities, legal requirements and obligations; the effective management committee/board; performing, reviewing and renewing; delegation; integrity; and openness.
At a recent conference in Lisburn - Cohesion, Sharing and Integration - the voluntary and community sector called on the Northern Ireland Executive to issue a plan to promote good relations to replace the seemingly sidelined A Shared Future.
Some good news on funding is the announcement of a £2 million investment programme through the Local Community Fund over the next year. Over 60 targeted areas across 18 District Councils in Northern Ireland will benefit from the fund, which will complement the support the Department for Social Development provides through the Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy for the top 10% most deprived communities.
